Sting takes holiday in Rio de Janeiro
Former Police frontman Sting recently treated himself to a sunny break in South America after thrilling his fans in a concert in Brazil.

The musician, who is sporting a generous amount of facial hair, looked virtually unrecognisable as he blended into a crowd of other beachgoers - save for the heavily-built bodyguard hinting at the presence of someone important.

According to the Daily Mail, Sting, who was a guest at the fashionable Fasano hotel in Rio de Janeiro - which has previously hosted Madonna - defended his beard from critics by saying it keeps him warm.

However, he may have found things a little hot under the excess facial hair while in the sunny Rio, which enjoys an average annual maximum temperature of 26 degrees.

The good heat and sunny conditions are some of the things that draw visitors from all over the world to Rio de Janeiro's beaches, such as the sandy and beautiful Ipanema.

The beach is especially vibrant during the peak of the summer when thousands of people pour in from all corners of the globe to sunbathe, play beach volleyball or take to the azure waters of the sea.

Also worth checking out is the Copacabana neighbourhood, home to the renowned Copacabana Palace Hotel and its plethora of attractive beach, kiosks, bars and restaurants.

The second largest city of samba-loving Brazil, Rio de Janeiro is a vibrant and popular holiday destination famous for many man-made wonders, none more spectacular than the landmark statue of Christ the Redeemer.

Included in the new edition of the Seven Wonders of the World and considered the largest art deco statue on the globe, the magnificent 39-metre tall structure is one of the attractions worth checking out while in Rio.

While the statue is impossible to miss due to its towering presence on top of the Corcovado Mountain, viewing it from a distance is not nearly as impressive as being at its base, which offers spectacular views over Rio.

Thanks to the generosity of the city, visitors no longer have to climb the 220 steps to reach it, but can coast towards it in the comfort of escalators and elevators.

Brazil is known for its wild partying and the city does not disappoint thanks to its festivals, which include the world-famous Rio de Janeiro Carnival, which normally takes place in February - the hottest time of the year.

However, before that is the city's New Year celebration, which sees Copacabana beach stage a spectacular party that includes street revelry and an impressive fireworks display.

Rio does not disappoint when the sun goes down as the city boasts a variety of amazing nightclubs, trendy bars and lounge cafes offering everything from cocktails to sushi.

As well as live music, visitors can enjoy a variety of cuisines from all over the world.
