With Brigitte Bardot credited for bringing Saint-Tropez to the attention of the world as far back as the 1950s, the French holiday destination could have been forgiven for losing its appeal.
However, it appears that, even after all these years, the town has retained its legendary status as a magnet for the rich and famous, with two prominent supermodels spotted on the French Riviera in the last week.
Cindy Crawford was staying in Saint-Tropez onboard a luxury yacht with her husband and a few friends, while Kate Moss was snapped in the area alongside her boyfriend Jamie Hince and daughter Lila Grace.
Crawford's days as a queen of the catwalk may be behind her, but she is still a draw for the cameras, with a number of photographs appearing in the Daily Mail of her in nothing more than a simple black bikini.
Relaxing by the yacht's swimming pool and catching some rays, Crawford looked a picture of happiness - although she admitted recently that she is not entirely comfortable with her body.
In an interview with Allure magazine, the American conceded that although she "looked good" for someone aged 43, she worried about something which affects women the world over.
When asked about cellulite, she told the news provider: "I do [have it], and I never said I didn't. I've had two kids and I'm 43, so leave me alone!"
Meanwhile, Moss and her entourage were also the centre of attention on their Saint-Tropez holiday, although the 34-year-old is clearly not shy about her body.
Initially pictured wearing a bikini with a stars-and-stripes motif on a yacht named Serenity, Moss was soon confident enough to dispense with the bikini top and lounge about the boat wearing nothing more than a sarong with some friends from the fashion world.
Ostensibly there to soak up the sun, Moss indulged in some lager, a cigarette or two, and a nibble of ice cream.
She also took some pictures of the group, which included Hince and Yves Saint Laurent designer Stefano Pilati.
Bardot's championing of Saint-Tropez came through her cinematic appearances, with notable examples including 'Et Dieu ... crea la femme'.
Tourism is still one of the main staples of the Saint-Tropez economy, although it would be wrong to think that the town is simply the preserve of the rich and famous.
Of the many beaches that line the coast of the Baie de Pampelonne, some offer a range of popular holiday sports including power boating, water skiing, windsurfing, sailing and canoeing, with equipment on hand for people to rent if they have arrived unprepared.
Those looking for more culture in their
holiday could visit the Musee de l'Annonciade, which features work by the likes of Bonnard, Matisse, Marquet, Dufy, Derain, Vlaminck, and Van Dongen, and for ordinary folk staying in the nearby
hotels rather than in a yacht like Crawford and Moss, the surrounding region offers a number of interesting places to explore, including Nice and Monaco.
