Lilly Allen takes in the sun in New Zealand
Many celebrities routinely escape to the Caribbean islands for some winter sun during this time of the year but musician Lilly Allen bucked the trend by heading to New Zealand instead.

The 24 year-old was spotted having a relaxing time with friends on a beach in the country in which she is to stage a performance today (January 15th) as part of the Big Day Out tour.

According to the Daily Mail, which published photographs of Ms Allen taking in the sun in a skimpy bikini, the singer is eager to settle down and start a family with builder boyfriend Sam Cooper.

She is quoted by the national newspaper as saying in the recent past: "I just want to have babies and live in the countryside, that's my goal really. I'm not a careerist, what I really want is to be a mum.

"I am driven, but that drive goes as far as keeping a roof over my head and having a routine. I have been in a relationship for six or seven months now and its going really well, so why not?"

The singer appears serious about taking a break from the high speed lane and has even avoided Twitter and Facebook, a big step, seeing as social networking site MySpace was responsible for her discovery.

Quirky pop tunes posted by her on the forum appealed to millions of people, kicking off a music career that has so far produced hit albums such as It's Not Me, It's You and her very own talk-show, Lily Allen and Friends, on BBC Three.

Located in south-western Pacific Ocean, New Zealand is an ideal destination to take a holiday in at this time of the year as the country enjoys relatively warm weather compared to the UK.

The county has a rich and vibrant culture thanks to its Maori heritage and boasts a unique wildlife population and distinctive fauna because of its geographic location and isolation from the rest of the world.

Despite this, the nation, whose cities consistently rank among the world's most liveable in various indexes, has a lot of modern activities, attractions and amenities to offer visitors.

These include the award-winning whale watching, which offers an opportunity for people taking holidays in New Zealand to have close encounters with marine animals in their natural environment.

Visitors opting for the excursions, which are offered by firms such as Whale Watch Kaikoura, can see everything from giant sperm whales and fur seals to pods of dusky dolphins and the endangered wandering albatross.

Away from the sea, holidaymakers in New Zealand can not only tour cultural attractions, but engage in outdoor activities such as cycling or mountain biking, kayaking, motorcycling, off-road driving, skiing or a quiet round of golf.
