Kerry Katona in Tenerife

Kerry Katona in Tenerife
Kerry Katona is a woman who has been through some hard times in her life. From being adopted in her childhood, to going through a public divorce and battling drug addiction, this mother has seen it all.
So it is no surprise that she sometimes needs a good break and it seems Katona thinks Tenerife is the ideal place to unwind.

The former pop star, 29, enjoyed a brief sojourn in the Spanish holiday destination and looked slim and tanned as she walked through the airport with her three-year-old daughter Heidi.

Katona had been relaxing in a floor-length maxi dress, ignoring the press who were trying to snap her on her break.

It is not the first time she has used Tenerife as a bolt-hole from press intrusion. Last August, Katona and her family holidayed on the island during peak season.

In August 2009, Katona was pictured playing with her daughter on Tenerife's golden white sands.

And Katona is not alone in her appreciation of Tenerife- it is thought that more than ten million holidaymakers visit the Canary Island each year.

Its beaches, wild night life and beautiful landscape prove to be an irresistible combination of features for visitors year after year, who enjoy the English culture in a much warmer setting.

Tenerife's vital statistics include 350km of coastline, volcanic lava and tropical forest walks, meaning that whether holidaymakers are travelling to top up their tan or get trim on a hiking break, they can do so on the island.

Come evening time, Tenerife comes into its own. Restaurants dish up traditional Canarian cuisine, while British bars and nightclubs ensure that the party continues long after the sun goes down.

However, like many of the Spanish islands infiltrated with Western tourists, there is a gentler side to Tenerife. One without neon signs and British beer, and which harks back to the quaint Canary Island Tenerife was before cheap flights and increased disposable income.

To discover this hidden Tenerife, hire a car and journey off the beaten track. Away from the south-western resorts in the capital of Santa Cruz de Tenerife holidaymakers will be able to experience the real culture of the island. And for those seeking some Spanish spirit, the time to visit has to be during the Carnaval, which sees the city come alive, much as Rio de Janeiro does during its infamous February celebrations.

Simply put, Tenerife can be lots of things to lots of people. Use it as a beach retreat, like Katona, or nurture the adventure in you and find out what attracted the masses to Tenerife in the beginning.
