Kate Middleton and Prince William in France

Kate Middleton and Prince William in France
Kate Middleton and Prince William both took time out of their busy schedules to enjoy a skiing break in France.

The pair, who are known for their extravagant breaks, visited the fashionable French resort of Courchevel with a group of friends, including Kate's sister Pippa.

During their fourth holiday in the space of a year, the pair checked into a luxury chalet, where they relaxed in between hitting the slopes and enjoying the entertainment features of the resort.

While the couple are normally fiercely private and reluctant to be snapped together, the Alpine air appeared to have mellowed them and the couple were pictured canoodling in the snow.

They were also spotted enjoying a meal in a rustic mountain-side restaurant, where Kate was seen getting up close and personal to the second-in-line to the throne.

An onlooker told the Daily Mail: "They were sitting right next to us on the mountain-top restaurant. Kate was really tactile with William and they were messing around in a loving way with each other. It was rather cute.

"Kate, who was wearing a white ski-jacket and goggles, is quite tiny in the flesh, incredibly slim and very pretty. William was in sunglasses but was instantly recognisable. They seemed a very loving couple."

It is not the first time the pair have been skiing in the trendy French resort, which is located in the Savoie region of eastern France.

Courchevel is part of the Les Trois Vallees network of pistes that includes Meribel and Val Thorens. Together, this network is the world's biggest collection of ski resorts, spanning 400 miles of slopes and 180 lifts.

Courchevel alone covers 1,300 acres of mountain, divided into four enclaves of different altitudes, which range from 1,300 metres to 1,850 metres.

Holidaymakers tend to choose the resort for the range of pistes this variety in altitude provides. There are ten black and 38 red runs for advanced skiers and 27 green and 44 blue runs for the less-adventurous. The pistes are also praised for being roomy and giving those who dare to navigate them plenty of room to ski at their own pace.

There is also a toboggan run for those looking for something more out-of-the-ordinary during their break. The run plunges 300 metres and is a twisting route that winds down a mile and a half of mountain-side, starting at the Tourets piste.

With so much on offer, it is not unlikely the prince and his beau will return to the French resort for yet another dose of Alpine air.
