Once upon a time Ibiza was the well-known territory of British supermodel Kate Moss, who famously enjoyed the Spanish island's nightclub scene and early morning beach parties.
But there is a new celebrity laying her claim on the Balearic island. And actress Sienna Miller is giving the sun-kissed holiday destination a new image.
Miller has visited the island several times over the past four years, but rather than frequenting the super-sized nightclubs Ibiza is renowned for the Alfie star has favoured Ibiza's glorious beaches and pristine coastline, where she has been papped sunning herself on yachts with celebrity friends.
The blonde actress was spied soaking up the sun in Ibiza on
holiday last summer with her then rumoured boyfriend DJ George Baker, while she chose the island as her bolt hole after her relationship with married Balthazar Getty was exposed in 2009.
Her stepmother Kelly Hoppen lives on the island, giving Sienna some roots in the sunny location.
It is not hard to see why the actress has a soft spot for this particular Balearic destination. Its landscape is dramatic and varied, from harsh and rocky mountains, to gorgeous golden beaches and thick woods, Ibiza has something to offer everyone. Whether topping up the tan is a holidaymaker's primary aim or rambling in the rural countryside, it can be found here.
Furthermore, Ibiza receives very little rain, guaranteeing visitors a dry and pleasant climate during their stay.
Since the 1960s the island has received an overwhelming amount of press as a holiday destination. It began with the Americans living out their California dreams there, while the Europeans made it a clubbing Mecca. However, there is a quieter side to Ibiza, where remote beaches still remain and quaint fishing villages humbly survive. In support of this little-known cultural side to the island is its status as a World Heritage site, owing to Ibiza's city's architecture and the rich sea life around the coast. And all it takes to discover the hidden beauty that has somehow escaped the hype is to avoid the bars and head for the coastal walking trails and quiet hills that have shunned Ministry of Sound mania.
But for those simply seeking a fun-filled getaway in a sunny location, Ibiza has not forgotten its roots. Neon bars, bold nightclubs and packed beaches still bring a smile to the more than four million passengers who pass through the airport each year.
