Discover why Gary Lineker loves Dubai
Dubai is one of the non-euro destinations set to benefit as British holidaymakers look for holiday hotspots that do not use the currency in order to save money.

Match of the Day host Gary Lineker was recently spotted soaking in the sun in the Middle East city alongside his lingerie model wife-to-be Danielle Bux.

The 48-year-old presenter took his 29-year-old fiance to Dubai's beaches, following up on trips that have taken them to a variety of locations including Vienna, Portofino in Florida and Barbados over the last couple of months.

According to the Daily Mail, Dubai's charm seems to have warmed its way into the couple's hearts as they have visited the emirate before, the last time being at the beginning of the year.

Recent research from On the Beach revealed that British holidaymakers are not going to let the harsh economic conditions eat into their holidays this year, and some of them plan to head to euro-free countries such as Dubai.

The holidaymakers plan to reduce the amount of time they spend on breaks instead of cutting them altogether.

"Consumers are not going to let the credit crunch stop them from taking their well earned holidays this summer," explained On the Beach chief executive Simon Cooper.

"However, holidaymakers are keeping focused on their budgets and keeping costs down by reducing the length of stay from two weeks to one, cutting out extra activities and downgrading their hotels," he said.

"Cutting out these luxuries, means consumers can still escape the doom and gloom of the financial crisis and unwind in the sun."

The research conducted by the travel company found that one in three (32 per cent) of Brits still plan to take their annual summer holiday this year and will instead cut down the duration from two weeks to one week in the sun.

In the same breadth, 36 per cent revealed that they would be downgrading their holiday accommodation this year, going for three-star instead of four-star hotels, while 49 per cent would cut back on expensive excursions, water sports and theme parks.

More than half (57 per cent) of those polled said that they would opt for non-euro countries this year.

Such changes in attitude play into Dubai's favour, which can make it possible for holidaymakers to enjoy their breaks without causing a big dent on their finances, due to its location outside the EU.

The city also has a few summer treats worth checking out, such as the Dubai Summer Surprises festival, which is a great time to visit the region, according to a recent article by Shelter Offshore.

With a weekly theme, the ten-week festival offers an opportunity for visitors and expatriates to get bargains as "a veritable feast of purchases, free promos and giveaways" hits the emirate.
