Chelsea star Ballack in Miami to gain a tan and enjoy azure waters
Miami recently played host to Chelsea soccer star Michael Ballack who was spotted in the sunny destination in the company of his 31-year-old wife making the best of the favourable clime.

The two appeared to relish being away from the not-so-nice UK weather, according to the Daily Mail, which published photographs of the couple enjoying one of the sandy beaches in the destination.

Heading to Miami was a well-earned trip for the German football star who is fresh from winning the FA Cup with Chelsea last month after they fought to third place in the Premier League.

Located in south-eastern Florida, the coastal US city is a popular holiday destination boasting everything from scenery and entertainment to a vibrant night-life that should not be missed while visiting.

Known as the 'magic city', it boasts a diverse culture and ethnicities stemming from a 60 per cent Hispanic population comprised of Cubans, Nicaraguans, Colombians, Venezuelans, Puerto Ricans, Argentineans, Ecuadorians and Brazilians among others.

Apart from stunning beaches, other attractions worth checking out while in the region include alligator farms, the Miami Metro Zoo, the city's sea aquarium and monkey jungle.

Other natural attractions that contribute to Miami's fascinating flora and fauna include Everglades National Park and Biscayne National Park, which is the only living tropical reef within continental US.

If in need of a break from the sea, there are places in Florida such as IMAX theatres and sophisticated entertainment venues featuring the latest games; if in luck visitors may just be able to catch some action at the Homestead-Miami Speedway.

Before returning from a trip to Miami, it may also be worthwhile to check out what local dance companies including the world-recognised Miami City Ballet have to offer.

The local theatre scene with venues such as the Jackie Gleason Theater, Actor's Playhouse and the Coconut Grove Playhouse are also worth visiting.

However, while in such destinations it may be wise for holidaymakers to make their payments on plastic cards, which can provide an "added layer of protection" for travellers.

This was stated by Addy Frederick, the public relations assistant at APACS, the UK payments association, who said that plastic cards are "probably one of the safest ways to pay" while overseas.

She said: "If you pay for anything over £100 and under £30,000 and it it's faulty or you don't get it, you can claim back for it under Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act."

Ms Frederick was speaking in the wake of the launch of a guide offering advice to card users travelling abroad this summer by the UK Cards Association and ABTA last week.

The guide recommended that card providers ensure they have up-to-date contact details of customers including a mobile telephone number and shielding PIN details from prying eyes while using cash machines.
