Celebrities Holiday In Mauritius
Aussie songbirds Kylie Minogue and Natalie Imbruglia jetted off to Mauritius recently in an attempt to put their relationship troubles behind them.

The former Neighbours stars, who both successfully parlayed their soap careers into pop superstardom, enjoyed a five-day holiday at the £2,480-a-night Shanti Ananda resort on the stunning Indian Ocean island.

Imbruglia was said to be heartbroken after splitting up with her husband of five years, Silverchair frontman Daniel Johns, so Minogue promptly came to the rescue suggesting the girls' exotic sunshine holiday as a way to put a cheer on her friend's face and help put her man problems on the back burner.

The holiday was a much-needed respite for Minogue also, who herself is no stranger to the tribulations of stormy relationships.

The pint-sized singer split up from love cheat French actor Olivier Martinez who, according to reports, was repeatedly unfaithful to Minogue with a bevy of beauties, as the singer was recovering after a cancer scare.

Cheating boyfriends was the last thing on the minds of Imbruglia and Minogue as they lived the high-life on Mauritius, lapping up the tropical rays.

The singers are thought to have stayed in a private villa at the luxury resort, which offers yoga lessons and calming meditation sessions. Also on offer at the exclusive resort are invigorating four-handed massages - perfect for releasing the tensions brought on by relationship stress.

Mauritius is known for its multicultural heritage and the visually delightful island is home to many exciting festivals which celebrate the nation's diversity.

The major Hindu festivals are the Thai Pongal or Mahasankranti, the Thaipoosam Cavadee, Maha Shivaratri and Holi. The Chinese New year is also celebrated to the vibrant sounds of bursting firecrackers in the Chinatown district of Port Blair.

Thai Pongal celebrates the harvest of crops and as part of the festivities, cows - which are considered to be a symbol of prosperity - are honoured with servings of rice pudding.

Thaipoosam Cavadee is celebrated in honour of Lord Subramanyam, a major deity of the Tamils, while Maha Shivaratri is celebrated in the spring when people bathe statues of Lord Shiva in a volcanic lake.

Another major festival celebrated on the island is Holi, which is a significant Hindu festival. As part of festivities, locals celebrate the victory of good over evil by throwing colour powder on each other, creating a stunning multicoloured haze over the island.
