It may come as no surprise to see Canadian angsty pop-rock singer Alanis Morrisette relaxing on
holiday in Mexico. After all, the heavily-pregnant star no doubt wants to put her feet up away from the prying eyes of the paparazzi.
The artist, who shot to fame with album Jagged Little Pill - which went 10x Platinum in the UK, no less - was spotted strolling along one of Mexico's many glistening and clean beaches while hand-in-hand with husband rapper MC Souleye, also known as Mario Treadway. After hosting a baby shower in Santa Monica the week before, she looked ready to take on the world and become a mother.
Visitors to Mexico will likely find something to meet every single one of their desires, whether they love relaxing in the sun like Alanis, shopping, sightseeing or embracing the history and culture of an entirely different world.
Perhaps the most impressive and tourist-orientated beach in the country is that found in Acapulco Bay, found around 200 miles due south of capital Mexico City. The deep, semi-circular bay served as a popular port for many centuries and the surrounding city of Acapulco profited greatly from this natural success. The largest tourist beach in the country, Acapulco Bay provides both traditional and historic experiences at the north end, while the south is home to dozens of high-class hotels and modern luxury.
If you're a fan of history and architecture, however, Mexico is perhaps one of the most jaw-droppingly amazing places to visit. Teotihuacan alone is worth a
holiday in the country; established in 200BC, it was finally sacked in the seventh century. A Multi-ethnic city, it is believed to have been home to 200,000 people, making it one of the largest settlements in the world at its peak. It forms one of many World Heritage Sites in the country and is the site of the Pyramid of the Sun.
Chichen Itza is another great destination for pyramid spotting, with El Castillo now one of the most respected monuments in the nation. Ruins are also found at the sites of Tenochtitlan, Tenayuca and Palenque, demonstrating a mix of Aztec and Mayan architecture.
Cities are not without their charms; Monterrey, Guadalajara and Tequila are all well known among travellers looking for thrills and spills as well as top-notch food and drink. Mexico City in itself is home to pretty much all experiences needed for a perfect
holiday, combining gastronomy, architecture, shopping and sporting fanaticism. However, you'll not be able to indulge in beach antics like Alanis - not without a long trip to either coast.
